ABSTRACT

The aim of our present study is ”To determine factors leading to conversion of laparoscopic cholecystectomy to open cholecystectomy”.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The Present clinical Study is a Retrospective analytical studyconducted in Osmania General Hospital, Afzalgunj, Hyderabad,Telangana a Government ran tertiary teaching hospital attached to a medical college. The study period is from 2013 to 2015. All patients who underwent LC (n=302) in the study period were identified from the medical records maintained in our theaters. The study population included all patients irrespective of age or gender or type of admissionThe inclusion criterion was a patient who was converted to open laparotomy.
RESULTS: Factors that are leading to conversion of laparoscopic cholecystectomy to open cholecystectomy are: male gender & oldage which are pre–operative factors. Male gender showed a higher conversion rate as compared to female gender which was also observed in most of the similar studies.
CONCLUSION: Factors that are leading to conversion of laparoscopic cholecystectomy to open cholecystectomy are: male gender & oldage which are pre–operative factors. Male gender showed a higher conversion rate as compared to female gender which was also observed in most of the similar studies. Oldage associated with higher conversion rates because of long standing symptomology & recurrent attacks in those age groups.
